Astrologer
Carolina ('Caro' for short)
I'm an astrologer, teacher, certified life coach, and sociologist. I've been studying astrology for more than 25 years, enamored with the way it blends psychology, spirituality, sociology and mysticism into a technical art form. In my work as an astrologer and coach, I help clients develop greater self-awareness and a sense of purpose as they navigate life.
A little more about me and my style
There are a number of astrologers out there who focus on prediction and fortune-telling. I am not one of them. I believe that astrological forces can help guide us, but they do not direct us. I draw on many of astrology's forecasting techniques, which point our attention to dominant energies swirling around at the moment and help us see what part of us is being called at any point in time to evolve — but I will not tell you what's going to happen, nor will I tell you what you should or should not do. I look to use astrology as a tool for personal growth and empowerment, and believe that a focus on prediction does the opposite.
I refer to my consultations as “astrological counseling” rather than “readings” because of my emphasis on using astrology to help people better understand themselves and where they want to go. I have a certification in integral coaching, a type of life coaching that focuses on helping people find balance and attune to their true selves.
My 9th house Sun and Aquarius Mercury on the Midheaven reflect my love of research, study and teaching. I've studied various styles of astrology — from traditional and Vedic astrology to Jungian and evolutionary astrology — and continue to study with some of my favorite teachers. I stay active in a number of astrological circles to keep myself abreast of new techniques and research. I have a Masters degree and completed my PhD studies (ABD) in Sociology, with a focus on historical sociology and cultural change, and spent many years teaching university.
A little more on astrology and how it works
Astrology is based on the Hermetic principle, "As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul..." Why and how the position of the stars reflect our life paths or personalities is something that I wish I could explain, but much like there is no good scientific explanation for the soul or the existence of a world outside the material, I've simply come to accept that this is a limitation of current scientific understandings, not of astrology.
Astrology is a language that speaks in archetypes. The planets reflect psychological and social drives; the signs describe the quality of those impulses and show how we go about feeling fulfilled. By looking at our charts we can see what we are called to do, how we feel compelled to act, and where we are most likely to find our fulfillment.
Astrology is also a wonderful counseling tool because it can help us connect different moments of our lives to the present. Drawing on astrology's various forecasting tools --transits, solar arc directions, progressed charts, synodic cycles-- we can look back and see when similar themes have arisen in our lives, and begin to make sense of our own growth and development over time. This can help provide meaning to the current moment, while also helping us identify lessons and potential for growth in what we are currently experiencing.
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.
